Terms and conditions
Last updated: August 31, 2026
By using OCTO Flashcards or this website, you agree to these terms. This is a short set of rules for a personal study app, not a substitute for legal counsel. If you do not agree, do not use the app or this site.
The service
OCTO Flashcards is a study app for creating handwritten or drawn flashcards, organizing them into folders and sets, and reviewing them in study sessions. The current App Store listing is for iPad (iPadOS 17.5 or later). Features may change as the app develops.
There is no paid subscription in the app today. The service is provided as-is, without warranties that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available forever.
Your account
You can create an account with email and password, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google. Email sign-up requires you to confirm your address before you can use the app.
You are responsible for the email you register, for keeping your password secret, and for activity on your account. Passwords must be at least 8 characters and include uppercase, lowercase, and a special character. Do not share your account.
You can update your display name and, for email accounts, request a password reset from Settings. Signing out does not delete your account or library. You can delete your account from Settings; that permanently removes the account. Folders and sets associated with it are archived rather than erased.
Your content
You keep ownership of the flashcards and other content you create. You grant us permission to store, process, and display that content as needed to run the app (including syncing it to your devices and generating preview images of card sides).
Do not upload content you do not have the right to use. Your library is private to your account; the app does not currently offer sharing or public publishing.
Deleting a folder or set in the app currently archives it rather than permanently erasing it. Deleting an individual flashcard removes it from your library. Deleting your account permanently deletes the account and archives the folders and sets associated with it (including the flashcards in them). If you need a copy you control, copy or photograph your cards yourself. There is no in-app export yet.
Acceptable use
Do not:
- Use the app in a way that breaks the law
- Try to access other people’s accounts or data
- Overload or interfere with the service
- Reverse-engineer the app except as allowed by law
- Use the service to store or transmit malware or abusive content
Third-party services
The app relies on other providers to operate, including Supabase for accounts and storage, PostHog for product analytics, and Apple or Google if you sign in with those services. Their terms and privacy policies apply to their processing. This website is hosted on GitHub Pages.
If you download the app from the App Store, Apple’s terms for that store also apply. Apple is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for the app or its content.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for lost data, lost study time, or indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the app or this site. The app is a study aid, not a substitute for your own notes or official course materials.
Ending use
You can stop using the app at any time by signing out and deleting it from your device. To delete your account, use Delete account in Settings. That permanently removes your user account. Folders and sets associated with it are archived rather than erased. If you cannot use the app, email support@octoflashcards.com from the address on the account.
We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms or that we cannot reasonably continue to support.
Changes
We may update these terms as the product changes. The updated version will be posted at this URL with a new date. Continued use after that date means you accept the revised terms.
